Synbiopunk is a global gathering for researchers, founders, engineers, and biotech teams who would rather build the future of biology than wait for it.

01 / Origin

  1. CCiC—the Conference of China iGEMer Community—is a community-led annual gathering where Chinese iGEM teams showcase projects, exchange experience, and connect with research and industry. In 2019, its sixth edition in Shenzhen gathered 70 teams from more than 60 universities. “Synbiopunk” was the theme—and the first appearance of the name and logo.

  2. Shanghai. Ailurus carried the name forward as a bio-developer Unconference: participants proposed the questions and built the program together.

  3. Beijing. Synbiopunk joined CCiC, China’s largest gathering of iGEM teams, bringing young synthetic biologists into direct conversation with industry builders.

  4. Dalian. The format opens further: global voices on the main stage, participant-led conversations around it.

What is an Unconference?

Part of the agenda is made in the room. Participants propose topics, gather around the questions that matter, and lead the sessions themselves.

The main stage delivers the frontier. The Unconference creates the collisions—researchers meet founders, students meet industry, and unfinished ideas find collaborators.
